“Fairies have to be one thing or the other, because being so small they, unfortunately, have room for one feeling only at a time.” – J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan.
I believe this quote embodies young children and describes perfectly the many reasons behind the wonderful (and not-so-wonderful) things they do. This blog is inspired by this quote and it chronicles my perspectives of young children. But more important, it’s a way for me to reflect and share my experiences of motherhood.
Who am I?
I’m a Lost Boy. Although, I didn’t land in Neverland the adventures are still grand. Life in Beijing is often complicated because I don’t speak Mandarin, but it all makes for a fantastic, colourful life. Since moving to Beijing I’ve accepted my fair share of challenges…I am now a wife, mother, student, and in my spare time, I’m an educator and a little business lady managing my cozy daycare facility in the hustle and bustle of downtown Beijing.
Who is my inspiration? Wendy, of course!
I often think of Wendy and how she adapted to her new life upon landing in Neverland and being asked to be the Lost Boys’ mother, “Of course, it’s frightfully fascinating, but you see I am only a little girl. I have no real experience.” Yet, despite her doubts, she literally flew, bravely into her new role, took a sword and swashbuckled her way to victory!
And so, I look forward to more challenges. I’ll just continue to wear my Wendy Hat and fly right in.
